Artwork created by Cornelia Petrea on canvas.
This painting was created in 2016. Type of the painting is abstract and the paint used is acrylic on canvas stretched on a wooden frame.
On an background of white, blue, yellow and red, different shades of red, blue and black come together to create visual illusions. The shapes that make up the arts meld together to flow harmoniously or clash into a violent frenzy.
The bright circle in the middle of the painting is the Wheel of Fortune, highlighted also by an uneven surface in the texture. The lower part of the picture is an organic velvety surface. At first glance it appears like fire from the dragon above but a moment later it changes to look like the wheel of fortune.
This painting is an expressive and abstract work in form and colour. I have used a canvas on which there have been successive washes of reds, blues and purples to increase the depth and create complexity in the surface. To finish the work off, a brilliant ochre and white gash was knifed on in the barder between the two min colour zones.
This work looks best in a large space where the viewer can either engross themselves in the painting by standing close but can also view from far away to see the whole composition.
